Betty Boop and Felix

Betty Boop and Felix was a newspaper comic strip starring Betty Boop and Felix the Cat, which ran from November 19, 1984 to 1988. It was written by Mort Walker’s sons Brian, Morgan, Greg and Neal, who signed their work as the Walker Brothers. Debuting at the height of Garfield’s popularity, this King Features Syndicate strip showed Betty Boop as a working woman and Felix as her pet (replacing Pudgy). The Walker Brothers comic strip featuring Betty continuted to be featured in newspapers up until 1990, in which it was retitled Betty Boop.

  • Unlike most other incarnations of the famous cat, Felix never spoke in this strip; his ideas and opinions were conveyed to the reader via thought balloons.
  • In 1986 the Walker Brothers stopped working on the Betty Boop comic strip to work on the revival of Hi and Lois and later revived the Betty Boop comic strip.
  • Neither Felix’ squash-and-stretch abilities nor his magic bag are included.
  • Betty’s sex appeal is downplayed.
  • The strips were also featured in Gayly Magazine.
  • Cyndi Lauper is referenced in one strip as being "unusual", a reference to the song "He's So Unusual". While attending a party, Betty and her friend come across Cyndi, but they have trouble identifying her.
  • The series also became known as Betty Boop and Friends.
