Felix the Cat

Felix the Cat

Felix the Cat is a character from classic American animated cartoons, much like Betty Boop. He was created in 1919 by Otto Messmer.

In Animation

The Felix the Cat cartoon series released 183 installments between 1919 and 1936, and Felix would later star in three different television series, as well as the direct-to-video Felix the Cat: The Movie. His voice was also provided by Jack Mercer in a few animated film shorts.

Betty Boop and Felix

After appearing in comics based on his original cartoon incarnation, Felix was paired between 1984 and 1988 with fellow animated star Betty Boop for the comic strip Betty Boop and Felix, a gag strip that dealt with Betty's daily life as a working girl, with Felix as her pet. His role in this series was similar to the protagonist of Garfield, providing commentary via thought ballons.
