Trivia

  • Was released on the 23rd of May in 1931.
  • The once nameless character who originally had a variety of names is now known as "Betty" and her second name is Boop.
  • Betty has a unique frilly dress in Silly Scandals, which was most likely inspired by Clara Bow's iconic appearance in which she wore a short strapless black frilly dress. Betty's dress was later modified.
  • Betty sings in the "Helen Kane" manner the popular song "You're Driving Me Crazy".
  • Betty's dress slips down while she is performing onstage to reveal her frilly bra.
  • This is Mae Questel's "debut role" as Betty Boop. At this time Margie Hines was still the official voice of Betty, both actresses would share the role until Hines contract ended in 1931. Hines' final role as Betty for the earlier cartoons, was recorded on the "11th of August" in 1932 for the cartoon I'll Be Glad When You're Dead You Rascal You.
  • In a majority of Betty's 1931 appearances, she does not do her signature "Boop-Oop-a-Doop" in Silly Scandals instead she has her heart "Boop" for her.
  • Bimbo has financial troubles in this cartoon and decides to sneak into the vaudeville theatre without paying. Pooch the Pup was created by Walter Lantz in 1931, not too long after this cartoon. Pooch also had a girlfriend called Poodles, who was a French poodle like Betty Boop.
