Meet Jasmine Rogers the New Betty Boop.

♥ The "Betty Boop Wikia Fandom" is a Betty Boop encyclopedia, also known as the Betty Boopedia. ♥

This site includes everything relating to the "Boop-Boop-Be-Doop" cult which was in-vogue from 1928 to 1934. The "Boop" was a prominent scat-singing term used by a number of "flapper girl vocalists" in the 1920s. The phrases "Boop-Boop-a-Doop," "Boop-Oop-a-Doop," "Boop-Boop-Ba-Doop," and "Boop-Boop-Be-Doop" are all interchangeable and originate from general scat rhymes, which according to the Fleischer Studios originated from Black nightclubs in Harlem.

Did you know that the "It-Girl" Clara Bow partially inspired the creation of Betty Boop? The Fleischers used Louise Brooks, Mae West, Greta Garbo, and Marlene Dietrich as well as other classic movie stars to enhance Betty's attractiveness. Mae Questel, Little Ann Little, Margie Hines and Bonnie Poe often served as base for the character's "Boop-Boop-Be-Doop" persona, which was partially based on singer Helen Kane. Kane was not the voice of Betty Boop, and did not voice her in the cartoons. However the Fleischers acknowledge "no one" as the model or inspiration for Betty Boop. You can find out more in the "Fleischer Studios vs. Helen Kane" article.

Desirée Goyette:

"Betty Boop was modeled after Clara Bow, so if you want to know more about who Betty Boop was, you need to know a lot more about who Clara Bow was. And so as the voice of Betty Boop I did my best Clara Bow imitation."

Did you know that the initial scat-singing routines that Betty is best known for were "alternatively" originated and created by African-American female performers from the musical Shuffle Along? The Fleischers utilized the M-G-M Short "Movietone: Little Esther" by Esther Jones to defend their studios when the Helen Kane sued them, claiming to be the creator of the "Boop" routine. When Kane's lack of originality was exposed in court, she lost. Jones' scatting methods were akin to Shuffle Along. You can find out more in the "What Ever Happened to Baby Esther?" article. You can also find out more in "The Life and Times of Betty Boop" a brand new book about Betty's life and origin.

Disney Snow White Betty Boop

Did you know that Betty Boop served as an early inspiration for Snow White, a Disney character? Snow White resembles Betty Boop quite a bit in the early designs. Even with the finalized drawing of Snow White, she still looks similar to Betty. In a 1983 interview, Adriana Caselotti acknowledged that Snow White had a childlike speaking voice and that she mimicked Betty Boop's tone by removing the Brooklyn accent.

Betty Boop is that popular that many characters have parodied or imitated her. Meet some of the Betty Boop copy-cat characters.
