Satan (Hebrew: שָּׂטָן satan, meaning "adversary"; Arabic: شيطان shaitan, meaning "astray" or "distant", sometimes "devil") is a figure appearing in the texts of the Abrahamic religions who brings evil and temptation, and is known as the deceiver who leads humanity astray.
Some religious groups teach that he originated as an angel who fell out of favor with God, seducing humanity into the ways of sin, and who has power in the fallen world. In the Hebrew Bible and the New Testament, Satan is primarily an accuser and adversary, a decidedly malevolent entity, also called the devil, who possesses demonic qualities.
In Theistic Satanism, Satan is considered a positive force and deity who is either worshipped or revered. In LaVeyan Satanism, Satan is regarded as holding virtuous characteristics. Satan appears in Red Hot Mamma Betty explores the underworld, and sings "Hell's Bells" for Satan and his minions.
When Satan tries to put the moves on Betty, she fixes him with a (literally) icy stare, freezing him and all of Hell.
Trivia
- Satan wearing a king's crown tongues an ice cream cone made of fire. He then turns up the flames of Hell.
- For most Christians, Satan is believed to be an angel who rebelled against God. His goal is to lead people away from the love of God; i.e., to lead them to evil.
- In the New Testament he is called "the ruler of the demons Matthew 12:24, "the ruler of the world", and "the god of this world" 2 Cor. 4:4. The Book of Revelation describes how Satan was cast out of Heaven, having "great anger" and waging war against "those who obey God's commandments".
- Ultimately, Satan will be thrown into the lake of fire. He appears in the Dynamite Entertainment comic strip, where he returns Lenny Lizardlips (who died) and his ghostly henchmen from the underworld to the world above.
- In Hurray for Betty Boop Satan, in a variety of forms, pops up to try to stop Betty Boop and claim her soul.
