Zac Posen is an American fashion designer. Born and raised to a Jewish family in New York City, residing in the SoHo neighborhood of lower Manhattan. He is the son of Susan (née Orzack), a corporate lawyer, and Stephen Posen, an artist.
His interest in fashion design started early, and as a child he would steal yarmulkes from his grandparents' synagogue to make ball dresses for dolls. In 2000, Posen received a prominent career opportunity after a dress he made for Naomi Campbell changed hands several times among several fashion insiders, including actress Paz de la Huerta.
He is famously well-connected and has called Stella Schnabel his muse. Through Interview magazine Editor-in-Chief Ingrid Sischy, Posen met his future publicist and event producer Ed Filipowski of KCD, who offered to represent him for free.
Zac Posen was tapped by King Features Syndicate to revamp Betty Boop's iconic little black dress (which is now red) after a meeting with cartoonists from Fleischer Studios and graduate students at the School of Visual Arts (who, for their master's thesis, were asked by King Features Syndicate vice president of creative services and SVA alum Frank Caruso to give the character a fresh look), the designer spent the next few months crafting two dresses he felt captured both Betty's femininity and spunk.
Zac was featured as himself in the cartoon short Betty Goes A - Posen where Betty got to show off his finalized dress design and the M.A.C Betty Boop lipstick.

- Is a huge fan of Betty Boop and grew up reading Betty Boop comic books and watching reruns of the original cartoon series with his father.
- Chose model Crystal Renn to portray Betty and wear the actual designer outfit.
