1935 Imitation

Sally Rand, who has her bubble dance patented, refuses to sue her closest imitator because she knows the value of publicity and won't help the other gal get any. Incidentally, something really ought to be done about those Max Fleischer cartoons. First it was Betty Boop and now the gal character (Olive Oyl) in Popeye the Sailor is a take-off on Zasu Pitts. Zasu incidentally hates to be aped because she knows over-imitation washes you up so much sooner. Four hardy Canucks, up in the mounted police territory, wrote Mae West recently explaining that they hopeful of forming a quartet, and asking her for permission to call themselves the Mae West Rangers.
