At the age of 17, Jo Miller Frankman entered a contest held by Paramount Publix & The Fleischer Studios sponsored by Helen Kane, according to her granddaughter her grandmother came in second place in an audition for the role of the animated character Betty Boop. Margie Hines and Mae Questel had been quoted as winning first place in Helen Kane sound-alike contests, earning them a contract to voice the character. Jo Miller's voice acting can be heard in the original black and white 1938 Terrytoon animated film short, The Wolf’s Side Of The Story as Little Red Riding Hood & her grandmother who speaks like Mae West.
