The makers of Driving Miss Daisy will produce a new animated film about the classic cartoon character Betty Boop, the MGM studio announced Thursday. Oscar-winners Richard and Lili Zanuck have never made an animated film before but are hopeful the Betty Boop project will be a popular release. "Our version of 'Betty Boop' will focus on the adventures of her pals, Koko and Bimbo, as they travel to Hollywood in search of fame and fortune," Ms. Zanuck said; "While our Betty Boop will remain in the 30s, she will have a decidedly modern twist," said Alan Ladd Jr., MGM's co-chairman. Production will begin this year. No release date has been set.
