TV Radio Week (1979)

The original voice of Betty Boop was that of Margie Hines. It goes on to list the final and "real" voice as that of Mae Questel, who then went on to be the voice of Olive Oyl in the Popeye cartoons.

In fact, in 1935 Kane sued Questal, the producer and Paramount, but Paramount was able to prove that the originator of the "Boop" was a young black singer in Chigago, Baby Esther. Kane was nevertheless known as the "Boop" girl.
